On November 14, the day of centennial of the Tatar Book Publishing House, a scientific and practical conference “The history of book publishing and modern trends in development of the book market” was held in Kazan. It was attended by heads of leading publishing houses and printing enterprises of Russia, national regional publishing houses of Bashkortostan, Mari El, Udmurtia, Chuvashia, Chechnya, Yakutia, Tyumen and Sverdlovsk regions. On behalf of the leadership of the republic, the Tatknigoizdat collective was congratulated by Chairman of the State Council Farid Mukhametshin.
“Today is a significant event for the public and cultural life of Tatarstan,” he said. – The Tatar book publishing house, created in 1919, and today remains the leading center of book publishing and enlightenment. All this time it worked on the opportunity to learn the multinational literature of our country. Over a hundred years, more than 20 thousand titles of books have been published with a total circulation of more than 243 million copies – educational and fiction literature, literature for children and youth, world and domestic classics. The main mission of the publishing house is to remain unchanged – popularization of Tatar literature, attraction of reading in the native language. ”
Farid Mukhametshin remembered the times when we were the most reading country in the world, when we devoted every free minute to reading books. In society, they were in unprecedented demand, and newspapers and magazines were printed in millions of copies.
“Times are changing quickly, now new information technologies and the Internet have developed. Many people want to read a published book right now and share it using online resources with friends. This is the command of the time. But book publishers still have consumers. The book resource is constantly replenished with new literature, which serves the knowledge of our history and culture. This is a great asset that, if lost, will impoverish a spiritual life. Therefore, publishers need to introduce modern forms of work with readers. It is important not to reduce the level of reader interest in books, ”said Chairman of the State Council.
The anniversary events continued with a festive concert at the Tatar State Drama and Comedy Theater named after K. Tinchurina. The scientific and practical conference was also attended by head of the Office of the President of the Republic of Tatarstan Asgat Safarov, chairman of the State Council Committee on Culture, Science, Education and National Affairs Ayrat Zaripov, representatives of creative unions, and the public of the Republic of Tatarstan.
