On May 22–23 at 6:30 PM, the Tatar State Drama and Comedy Theatre named after K. Tinchurin will present the musical melodrama “Bexet xakı” (“The Price of Happiness”) (12+). The play is written by Tatar poetess Halisa Mudarrisova, a member of the Writers’ Union of the Republic of Tatarstan, and directed by Ramil Fazliyev, Honored Artist of the Republic of Tatarstan and Chief Director of the G. Tukay Atninsky Tatar State Drama Theatre. This performance marks the sixth premiere of the 91st theatrical season.
Plot Summary: A Reflection on Life, Fame, and Lost Values
In pursuit of a career, success, societal recognition, and material wealth, a modern person can sometimes lose sight of what truly matters — family and loved ones. In “The Price of Happiness,” the protagonist Zarif, a composer and founder of a musical theater, comes to this realization only after he has lost everything: love, family, children, and health. As he reaches the twilight of his life, fate offers him one final chance. Will Zarif seize the opportunity? Will he have time to correct the mistakes of his youth?
This play is being staged in Tatarstan for the first time.
Director’s Insight: Ramil Fazliyev
“The theater management communicated their preferences regarding the genre. I proposed several plays, and they chose this one — a story about creative people. It’s a subject especially close to artists,” said Ramil Fazliyev, director of the production.
“It will likely resonate with audiences too, because people come to the theater to connect with art. Creativity is about total dedication, and the protagonist sacrifices everything to achieve fame. In the end, what’s on the scale? Fame and emptiness? Was it worth it?..”
