This past weekend, an open training session in traditional belt wrestling was held in Krasnodar, with the participation of the Krasnodar branch of belt wrestling “Koresh” and the Krasnodar public organization “Russian Druzhina.”

Both men and young athletes took part — some already established in various martial arts, others just beginning their athletic journey. All participants demonstrated strong results and good physical preparation, while the training itself was held in a warm, friendly atmosphere of mutual support.

The open training was conducted by belt wrestling coach, 2010 Koresh World Champion, Master of Sports of Russia in Greco-Roman wrestling Takhir Khuzjagaliev, together with Alexander Baynasov, activist of the Krasnodar branch of Koresh belt wrestling and winner of the regional stage of the WeAreTogether Award 2024 in the “Act of the Year” category.

Tournaments in traditional belt wrestling are often featured at celebrations such as Maslenitsa and Sabantuy (Festival of the Plough).

During the training, participants gained skills in belt wrestling bouts, learned the rules of this traditional Kuban martial art — also known among the Cossacks as “na lomka” — and received invitations from Adel Koneev, head of the Krasnodar branch of Koresh, to take part in the upcoming regional championship of Krasnodar Krai, to be held on September 27 in the city of Armavir.

Looking ahead, representatives of the Krasnodar branch of Koresh will also take part in the Festival of Russian and Cossack Culture, scheduled for October 4 in Krasnodar.
