The Rais of Tatarstan, Rustam Minnikhanov, has approved the dates for the Muslim holidays Eid al-Fitr (Uraza Bayram) and Eid al-Adha (Kurban Bayram). The head of the republic signed the corresponding decree.
The document states that, “in accordance with the lunar calendar and established traditions,” the celebration of Eid al-Fitr will begin on March 20. Eid al-Adha will be observed by the faithful on May 27.
Both holidays fall on weekdays, which, according to the republic’s legislation, will be non-working days.
Earlier, the dates for Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha were determined by the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of Tatarstan. The holy month of Ramadan will begin on February 19 and end on March 20.
