During the days of the DAIRAFEST international festival of Oriental art, the Alif performance was shown at the Skorokhod site. We remind  that the dance performance on Tatar writing is the holder of three nominations for the main theater prize “Golden Mask”.

The performance consisted of three parts. In the first part, through the dance, the letters of the dead Tatar alphabet (“suit is” in Tat.) were written in Arabic letters. In the second part, three girls sang the poem of the Tatar poet Gabdulla Tukai “Tugan Tel” (“Native language”). The first spoke the letters of the “lost” Tatar alphabet, the second spoke the words, the third spoke the line. The third part is a collection of the two previous parts together, in which the full poem of Tukai in three voices sounded.

The creators of the play “Alif” through body language and authentic Tatar singing tried to penetrate into the cultural layer that was “forgotten” by the people, to touch the culture, which, unfortunately, is now lost. Indeed, for most modern people to read and understand an unadapted poetic text has become impossible.
