In an annual Address  to the State Council of the Republic of Tatarstan, President of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov marked  the need to create optimal conditions for supporting the native languages ​​of the peoples of the republic.

“A serious task is to create, in cooperation with the federal center, optimal conditions for supporting the native languages ​​of the peoples and state languages ​​of the Republic of Tatarstan,” said Minnikhanov.

He also noted the importance of creating a network of multilingual educational complexes in the republic, the initiative for the appearance of which belongs to the State Advisor to Tatarstan Mintimer Shaimiev.

“Among our priorities was and remains the provision of interethnic and inter-confessional peace and harmony. The changes made taking into account the federal decisions and concepts in the state policy of Tatarstan are aimed at supporting and preserving the ethnocultural and linguistic diversity of peoples, strengthening their spiritual community, ”the President of the Republic of Tatarstan emphasized.

In addition, he added that issues of ethnic self-identification in the dynamics of the national composition of the population will become an important subject of study during the 2020 All-Russian Population Census.

According to him, the census organizers should take into account the special delicacy of their mission.

“It is necessary to carry out extensive outreach work together with civil society institutions and authoritative national-cultural associations. This should contribute to an authoritative and accurate reflection of the prevailing ethnic realities, ”explained Rustam Minnikhanov.
