On the 24th day of the month of Muharram, in the Barze region of Damascus, for the first time after repair, a comprehensive school was solemnly opened, damaged as a result of military operations in Syria. The five-story school has opened its doors to 1,200 Syrian pupils, whose faces today  are  shining  with happiness. The building was restored, thanks to the help of religious organizations of Russia that are part of the Inter-Religious Working Group to Assist the Syrian Population of the Council for Interaction with Religious Associations under the President of the Russian Federation. The DUM of the RT also took an active part in this matter, the forces of which organized a charity fundraising among the concerned Muslims of Tatarstan.

The official opening ceremony of the school was attended by representatives of the Russian delegation and religious organizations of Syria, as well as the media. The Russian delegation included  Executive Secretary of the Council for Cooperation with Religious Associations under the President of the Russian Federation Sergey Melnikov, Mufti of Tatarstan Kamil Hazrat Samigullin, Mufti of the Religious  Assembly of Muslims of Russia Albir Hazrat Krganov, Secretary of the Department for External Church Relations of the Moscow Patriarchate Father Stefan, as well as representatives of the Russian Embassy and consulates and others.

After being liberated in 2017, the school was used as a hostel for refugees. Then she fell into an abandoned state. Religious communities of Russia – Christians and Muslims have organized fundraising for humanitarian assistance since December last year. In March, repairs began on the educational institution.

The inter-religious working group on the provision of humanitarian assistance to the population of Syria of the Council on Cooperation with Religious Associations under the President of the Russian Federation, which includes the Christian and Muslim communities of Russia, was created in April 2017. To date, this group has already carried out a number of actions to deliver large humanitarian aid to Syria.

May Allah protect all countries and peoples from what the Syrians and their children had to endure as a result of the fighting, send down this country of peace and give blessings to all who made personal donations for the restoration of this school and prayed for the well-being of our Syrian co-religionists.
