Razil Valeev: To revive the program of preserving national languages, we must return to the law on education

Chairman of the State Council Committee on Education, Culture, Science and National Issues Razil Valeev supported the statement by  the President of Russia Vladimir Putin on the need to revive the program of preserving the national languages of the peoples of the country.

“I welcome this statement and I am very glad that the President of the Russian Federation made such an initiative. But the root of the problem lies in the adopted law on the study of native languages, “the parliamentarian said.

According to Razil Valeev, the adopted law does not provide an opportunity not only for development, but also for the preservation of national languages.

“In the new law, parents choose their native languages - it’s normal and good that it’s mandatory. But the study of the state language at the choice of parents does not fit into any legal framework and contradicts the constitutions of both the Russian Federation and the Republic of Tatarstan, because the state language is not the language of one people, it is the language of a whole state. It has already been elected by the deputies and is determined by the Constitution. It is chosen by the state, not by the parents, “the deputy said.

In the circumstances, most parents will choose a Russian language for their child, because the USE (Unified state exam) is passed  only on it, Valeev said.

“In addition, the law also speaks of the possibility of teaching and learning the native language only up to grade 9, so in the 10-11 classes national languages will not be studied. Consequently, we will not have scientists. How, without studying the national language in high school, will students choose, for example, the profession of a Tatar teacher and literature or a specialist in Tatar philology? “concluded the parliamentarian.

Today, August 15, Putin, speaking at the North Caucasus educational forum “Mashuk” in Pyatigorsk, spoke about the need to revive a program that would preserve the national languages of the peoples living in Russia.
