On June 25, after a two-year break, Sabantuy was held in St. Petersburg – the favorite holiday for the end of the sowing campaign. A folk holiday was organized in the village of Enkolovo in the Vsevolozhsk district of the Leningrad region. The festivities traditionally united people of all ages and professions, nations and religions, the press service of the World Kurultai of the Bashkirs reports.
The holiday program was especially rich and bright. Sabantuy guests were treated to performances by stars of the Bashkir and Tatar culture, the best folk and pop singers from the Leningrad region and St. Petersburg. The tightrope walkers also showed their skills. National farmsteads were organized with their souvenirs and folk crafts. All the participants tasted traditional treats – plov, chak-chak, horse sausage (kazylyk), honey and other sweets.
For lovers of outdoor activities, traditional types of Bashkir-Tatar games and competitions were organized: sash wrestling, pillow fights, blindfolded pitcher breaking, power competitions and others.
The delegation of Bashkortostan was headed by Elvira Aitkulova, deputy of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, chairman of the presidium of the World Kurultai of the Bashkirs.
