“The Hay Bazaar”: what to expect from the largest tatar festival

On August 24, the festival of urban Tatar culture and design, “Pechan Bazary”, will take place in the Old Tatar Settlement and along the embankment of Lake Kaban.

This year’s festival will honor the Year of the Family, featuring masterclasses on compiling family trees, a lecture on Tatar family traditions from the early 20th century, an exhibition of wedding photographs, and even speed dating.

The festival program will also include a design market, masterclasses for both children and adults, lectures, readings from magazine archives, a photo zone, a Tatar tea ceremony, cinema screenings, a concert of contemporary Tatar music, performances by the children’s vocal group SalavaTik, board games in the Tatar language, and much more.

In celebration of the Year of the Family, the festival organizers have announced a flash mob titled “Tuy kulmege” (“Wedding Dress”). Participants are invited to submit wedding photos of their parents or grandparents, as well as modern wedding photos featuring couples in national costumes. An exhibition showcasing wedding photos from various eras will be organized during the festival.

This year’s event will highlight the works of contemporary Tatar designers, artists, chefs, musicians, and other representatives of creative industries. In addition to Tatar designers, representatives from the Bashkir community will also participate in the festival, continuing a cherished tradition.

A dedicated children’s playground will feature various masterclasses. The festival will also include a concert program for children, featuring performances by the children’s vocal group “SalavaTIK”.

The festival will conclude with a screening of Ainur Askarov’s feature film “Family of the Year” and a concert showcasing contemporary Tatar music. Performers at the concert will include Radif Kashapov, Musa Gayanov, Al Su, Elina, Azat Gimadiev, and lunami.
