On 7 June in his address to residents of the republic on the occasion of celebrations of the Tatar national holiday Sabantuy, the Rais (Head) of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov congratulated everyone with the holiday and said: “The folk wisdom which is passed from generation to generation pays special attention to values of hard work and respect for traditions while achieving set goals.
From our ancestors we know that it is possible to have a rich yield and open new opportunities for further progress only by hard work. It has been so since time immemorial and it is true nowadays. And, celebrating Sabantuy, we first of all pay deep respect to farmers and field workers whose efforts ensure food prosperity of our republic and the country.
For centuries the bright and hospitable maydan (Square) gathers representatives of various ages, ethnicities and religions. The holiday really reflects an example of peaceful coexistence and cultural mutual enrichment of residents of multi-ethnic Tatarstan. From the Tatar national holiday it has become one of the symbols of rich cultural treasure of our Fatherland and today is successfully celebrated both in Tatarstan and many regions of Russia as well as in the foreign countries.
Sabantuy is the place for a long-awaited meeting of native people, community and friends. Its atmosphere is conducive to pleasant communication in the native language, direct immersion in centuries-old traditions and customs. It attracts with its unique spirit of sports competitions and folk games, and the mastery of talents. It is here that the strength, dexterity and ingenuity of horsemen, future defenders of their families and the Fatherland, are demonstrated.
Let the current Sabantuy give you the most positive emotions and strength for creative work and our unity!”
In conclusion the Rais of the republic wished everyone good health, happiness, peace and prosperity.
