On August 2, 2025, the IV All-Russian Traditional Archery Tournament “Tugan Batyr” will take place in the picturesque setting of the Yelabuga settlement.

This unique sports and cultural event, first held in 2022, has attracted attention not only from local residents but also from participants from across the country — including the most remote regions.

Each year, the number of participants continues to grow: 65 archers took part in the first tournament, 75 in the second, and 90 in the third. This growth highlights the rising interest in traditional archery and the cultural heritage of our people. This year, even more participants are expected from various regions, including Tatarstan, Bashkortostan, Udmurtia, Dagestan, the Astrakhan and Samara regions, as well as Moscow, St. Petersburg, Uzbekistan, and Kazakhstan.

The tournament’s venue — the Yelabuga settlement — is renowned for its rich history and unique atmosphere. It forms part of the ancient Bulgar mosque, a 10th-century architectural monument, adding historical depth and significance to the event.

“Tugan Batyr” symbolizes the Tatar hero, embodying the courage and precision of a defender of his land and people. Inspired by the words of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), who said, “Archery is the best of entertainment,” we bring together the best archers to determine the most accurate and skillful among them.

Since ancient times, valiant batyrs gathered to compete in tests of skill and marksmanship. The finest locations were chosen for these contests. In this provincial town on the Kama River, such a place is the historic Yelabuga settlement — part of the ancient Bulgar mosque, a 10th-century architectural monument and a federal cultural heritage site.

Here, participants and guests will not only witness thrilling archery battles but also enjoy the natural beauty of the area and immerse themselves in a historical atmosphere. During the tournament, a tent camp will be set up for those who wish to experience life as it was in ancient times.
