On June 5, the first festival-competition of street dance and theatre on the theme of Volga region fairy-tale folklore, “Manzara” (Tatar for “Spectacle”), will take place on the territory of the Old Tatar Settlement in Kazan. In the historical heart of the city, 500 participants from all over Tatarstan will vie for the title of the best. Applications to participate in the festival are accepted until February 28.
On the day of the festival, locations on Kayum Nasyri Street in the Old Tatar Settlement will come to life, each with its own unique history: Künche Street, Shihabetdin Marjani’s House, Zayni Sultan Square, the stage near the art object “Kazan Manzarasy” (Tatar for “Window to Kazan”), Merchant Mullin’s House, and the pedestrian Kayum Nasyri Street (the area in front of the first cathedral mosque “Al-Marjani”).
“The event will unite modern forms of street art with the rich traditions of folk culture of the Tatars and peoples of the Volga region, while drawing attention to the study of historical sites in the Old Tatar Settlement,” reports the press service of the “Old City” Prefecture.
Theatre and choreographic groups, as well as solo performers from all over Tatarstan, will be able to participate in the festival. Winners will be determined in age groups of 10-14 years, 15-18 years, and 18-35 years across seven nominations. These include street dance in Tatar folk stylization, Volga region folk dance, theatrical choreographic production, one-person show, theatrical performance, puppet theatre, and musical.
Creative performances will be evaluated by specialists in the field of choreographic and theatrical arts, honored figures of the Republic of Tatarstan and the Russian Federation, associate professors of theatre and choreography departments, teachers, media personalities, and participants of TV shows.
Additionally, as part of the “Manzara” festival, an exhibition-fair of crafts, souvenirs, agro-industrial products, printed materials, and photo zones in Tatar folk stylization and on the theme of Volga region fairy tales will be organized.
To participate, it is necessary to fill out an application.
The project is being implemented with the support of the Ministry of Youth Affairs of the Republic of Tatarstan as part of a republican grant competition for individuals among children and youth.
