On the eve of the solemn opening of the Year “Kazan – Cultural Capital of the Islamic World,” the exhibition “Paradise Garden: The Art of Russian Islam” opened at the National Museum of the Republic of Tatarstan — a synthesis of contemporary art and historical exhibits.
Opening the ceremony, the Minister of Culture of the Republic of Tatarstan, Irada Ayupova, emphasized that a discussion of Islam in the context of the Kazan Forum requires addressing not only cultural forms but also fundamental moral foundations. “When we speak of Islam, including within the paradigm of the Islamic Forum, we rarely understand or realize what we mean by it. It seems to me that the foundation of this worldview lies in the value of key moral principles,” the minister noted.
Also taking part in the opening ceremony was the Director General of ICESCO, Dr. Salim bin Mohammed Al-Malik, who highlighted Kazan’s special cultural role: “Kazan speaks the language of culture. Its streets exude elegance, its architecture reflects refinement and artistic sensitivity, and its museums carefully preserve memory.” According to him, the exhibition “opens a broad cultural horizon for Kazan,” presents the richness of Tatar heritage and the creative energy of the region, and strengthens cultural dialogue between nations.
The exhibition was prepared by the National Museum of the Republic of Tatarstan together with the Street Art Research Institute, the State Museum of the East, and the Marjani Foundation.
