The Ministry of Education of Russia has presented 40 new educational programs for the study of native languages and literature. The development was carried out by the Federal Institute of Native Languages of the Peoples of the Russian Federation.
The materials will be included in the federal core general education programs. Students from grades 1 through 11 will study using them. The ministry states that the new materials take into account modern teaching methods and, importantly, different levels of language proficiency.
In total, 340 programs covering 59 languages are currently included in the federal programs. According to the ministry, in the new academic year, 3.5 million people are studying native languages, of which 2.7 million are doing so within school education.
