On March 28, a commemorative event dedicated to the 120th anniversary of the birth of the outstanding Tatar poet and Hero of the Great Patriotic War, Musa Jalil, was held at the Russian House in Cairo.
The literary evening was heartfelt: children learned about the life and work of Musa Jalil, read his poems, and took part in creative master classes — coloring gingerbread cookies with Tatar ornaments and making bookmarks.
A screening of the feature film “Kara Urman” (“Black Forest”) by director Radik Kudyaro was also organized, which reveals the tragic and heroic fate of the poet who found himself in German captivity. The screening took place in the newly renovated cinema hall of the Russian House in Cairo, modernized with the support of the Cinema Fund.
Before the screening, Vadim Zaichikov, head of the Rossotrudnichestvo representative office in Egypt, addressed the guests.
In his speech, he spoke about the significance of Musa Jalil’s poetry and his courage, and also noted that this year has been declared the Year of the Unity of the Peoples of Russia, emphasizing that the Tatar people made a huge contribution to the common Victory and the country’s history.
