AI will translate online meetings of Tatarstan residents into the Tatar language in subtitle format

MTS has launched a feature for automatic real-time translation from Russian and English into Tatar in subtitle format on the MTS Link platform. Tatar has become the first among the national languages of the peoples of Russia to have translation made available on the platform.

The tool is based on Russian technologies. Artificial intelligence recognizes speakers’ speech and displays subtitles at the bottom of the online event window.

“Over the past year, residents of the republic held about 80,000 online meetings and webinars – by this indicator, Tatarstan became the leader among Russian regions, excluding the metropolitan areas of Moscow and St. Petersburg. Organizations from the business and education sectors, government institutions, and IT companies used the platform for business communication, training, and collaboration more actively than others. One of the most sought-after scenarios for users is the ability to communicate in their native language. Given that several million people in the country speak Tatar, we added translation so that participants in online events can also use their native Tatar language in communication. At the same time, simultaneous translation from the most common languages can be useful not only in work meetings but also at all-Russian and international forums and conferences that the republic regularly hosts,” said Marat Kabanov, Director of MTS in Tatarstan.

The subtitle feature appeared on MTS Link in the third quarter of 2025. Its main task is to make business communication and training more accessible to those who have difficulty perceiving spoken speech, including hearing-impaired employees. In the first quarter of 2026, MTS Link expanded the subtitle functionality: real-time translation into 18 languages became available to users. This has simplified participation in meetings, conferences, and training for multilingual audiences.
