Vasil Shaykhraziev visits the Din-Muhammad Mosque in Petropavlovsk

Vasil Shaykhraziev, Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Tatarstan and Chairman of the National Council of the World Congress of the Tatars, continues his working visit to the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Today, as part of the working program, the delegation from Tatarstan visited the Din-Muhammad Mosque in Petropavlovsk. The guests familiarized themselves with the unique architecture and history of one of the most important spiritual centers of the region.

Background Information:

The Din-Muhammad Mosque is the oldest mosque in Petropavlovsk and one of the city’s main landmarks. It is an architectural monument of the late 19th century. Built in 1854 with funds from the merchants Din-Muhammad Bichurin and V. Yangurazov, it bears the name of one of its benefactors.

During the Soviet era, all madrasahs and mosques in Petropavlovsk were closed and destroyed. In the 1930s, the mosque building was not used for its intended purpose, and its minaret was completely dismantled.

It was only in 1996 that the Tatar-Bashkir religious society managed to reclaim the mosque. By that time, the building had been almost completely destroyed, leaving only bare walls.

Soon after, the Tatars of Petropavlovsk began the reconstruction of the Din-Muhammad Mosque, which was completed in 1998.

In 2001, the mosque’s minaret was rebuilt. In 2013, it came under the jurisdiction of the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

To this day, the Din-Muhammad Mosque is an active mosque and one of the architectural monuments of the city of Petropavlovsk.
