Today, a delegation from Tatarstan, led by Danis Shakirov, a deputy of the State Council of the Republic of Tatarstan and Head of the Executive Committee of the World Congress of the Tatars, visited the venue of the 3rd International Irtysh Sabantuy and inspected the progress of preparations for the holiday.
The 3rd International Irtysh Sabantuy will take place on the central square of Surgut. Everything necessary has been prepared for the holiday there: banners and signs have been installed, stages have been erected, the area has been decorated, and preparatory work at retail outlets is being completed. The organizing committee is overseeing the final stages of preparation.
The event is called the Irtysh Sabantuy because the Irtysh River originates in China and flows through Kazakhstan, Omsk Oblast, Tyumen Oblast, and the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug. Delegations from each of these regions are expected to arrive for the Sabantuy. This holiday is held with the aim of strengthening friendship among the peoples living in the district and preserving their cultures.
The 3rd International Irtysh Sabantuy is a large-scale Tatar holiday marking the completion of spring field work. This event unites regions of Russia, Kazakhstan, and China, symbolizes the connection along the Irtysh River, and includes national games and wrestling (koresh), folk customs, and culture.
