The first state television channel for the Crimean Tatars “Millet” has started broadcasting in Crimea. Media was created specifically by the regional authorities for one of the indigenous ethnic groups of the peninsula. Many programs will tell about the history and culture of Crimean Tatars.
Channel name means “nation.” According to employees of the television, the opening of the media in the Crimea has been waited for more than 20 years. Crimean Tatars – the third largest ethnic group on the peninsula after the Russian and Ukrainian. Currently, the peninsula is home to 200 thousand Tatars that is 10% of the total population of the Crimea.
The TV channel “Millet” began broadcasting with the Russian national anthem. Half of airtime on the channel will occupy the programs in Crimean Tatar language, the other half will be in Russian.
Since the new year satellite broadcasting will start. “Millet” can be watched 24 hours not only on the peninsula, but also beyond. In addition to TV, radio broadcasting will be launched.
