Already the next weekend on May 12 in the village Malye Chapurniki of the Svetloyarsky municipal district the XXX-th regional folklore and ethnographic Tatar festival “Sabantuy” will be held.
Why “Sabantuy” will be held there? But because in the Svetloyar region there are 60 nationalities, and the Tatar population is one of the most numerous in the district. It ranks second after the Russian population.
The history of Sabantuy is more than a thousand years old. The origins of the celebration go back to antiquity and are connected with the agrarian cult. This is evidenced by its name: Saban means “spring crops” or “plow”, and tui – “wedding”, “triumph”. Thus, the meaning of the word “Sabantuy” is a celebration in honor of the sowing of spring crops. Due to its special spirituality and unifying beauty, Sabantuy wins the love of everyone who has at least once taken part in it. Today, it crossed national and international borders.
Not so long ago, UNESCO recognized the “plow holiday” as a national treasure. Sabantuy passes as a multi-genre festival, in which a large number of professional and amateur singers, dancers, musicians, masters of arts and crafts take part.
The festive program includes: a concert of amateur performances, national sports competitions, competitions, demonstration performances of equestrians. In addition, the holiday gives an excellent opportunity to get acquainted with the art and life of the Tatar people, its customs, national cuisine and costumes.
The boundaries of participants of amateur performances are widening. Along with the collectives of the Svetloyarsky district, the collectives of Kazan, Astrakhan, the Republic of Kalmykia, Tatarstan and the Volgograd region perform on the same stage.
