The two-day festival Jadidfest in “DC-21 (house of culture)” as if shifted holidays into another reality – where Kazan identity manifests itself completely. Radif Kashapov, who took an active part in its holding, saw in it an optimistic omen.
In fact, Jadidfest is a continuation of “Pechen bazary”, “Hay market,” which took place three times at the Old Tatar settlement. It is, first of all, a design market, which, however, only includes those who make things with an eye to national identity, be it clothes, jewelry, cards, or, for example, honey. There is no doubt that the man, who made a shirt with ornamental embroidery, did it because he could not otherwise, it is in his mind.
The word Jadid – Arabic, means “new”. The point is that the city Tatar culture was developing in the early 20th century by jadids, supporters of an alliance with the European trends. They saw no contradiction in their endeavors with the canons of Islam. Opponents of them were so-called kadimists.
Actually, the history of Tatar culture – a record of perpetual resistance, because it did not have a clear free development
period. And what’s happening right now – is, inshallah, the beginning of its renaissance.
The fact that number of designers is growing, it is clear. Tatar language – knowledge, which is not so easy to keep in current realities. And because many Tatars, who honor floral motifs and green color, closer to the roots in aesthetic terms, than in terms of declinations and cases. Besides, manual work and commerce – is their own, native.
This is seen, for example, in clothes of having come Muslim women, Arabian theme preserved, far enough away from the Tatar – because the Tatar design began seriously to expose itself only in recent years, which means that those who wanted “something familiar,” had to wear things from motherland of Bedouins. Now – please even the men’s shirts are at hand, and that’s not counting jacket, boots, earrings and more.
On food, the theme remained – echpochmak but vegetarian with mushrooms. As well as sweets and pilaf. And above all this – Tatar funk, soul, rock, pop and much more – a juicy selection of label Yummy Music.
In addition to the design, the second platform of Jadidfest was a lecturer. Characteristically, on the first day there appeared Radmila Khakova, who returned to Tatarstan after a long voyage to the capitals – and presented her website rukami.tatar, clearly focused not only on the Tatar-speaking audience. Since in Kazan one is looking for Tatarian. And it should be a lot.
In general, the lecture on April was devoted to literature. For example, we were the only ones, who remembered that the cult texts by Adel Kutui “The unsent letters” turned 80 years old. And the text about a woman who was able to overcome the adversities of an unsuccessful marriage and realizes herself as a personality (still looking for support in a man), may be called a feminist. And then – they’d go: it turned out that the mother of Kutui promoted these ideas, and that somehow forgotten ideas of Islamic feminism …
A big hero of “Jadid” became the poet Hadi Taktash. An incredible figure. Romantic – and realist. Hero of squares, – experiencing a hellish hardship, journalist. The symbol of the era. 115 facts would talk about him – in preparation, last night, for instance, suddenly it found out that mother of watchman of the World Congress of Tatars Albert aby studied at Taktash. Everything is connected in the world?
On the second day it was possible to observe the following picture – relatively speaking, the editor tries to play guitar and Radik Salimov plays bass (all under some krautrok bit), honored noble guardian of verses Rkail Zaydulla reads out Taktash poetry. And this is being listened by a deserved modern classic Aydar Khalim. And multitude of spectators. This action “Taktashnonstop” – almost three hours of improvised electronics, 40 readers and texts are completely different – from Lenin’s panegyrics to the revelations of the Prophet, who died in the First World. They say it was cold. Sorry – we’re on the scene did not feel anything.
The second day of lectures was given to children – anime, cooking master class, a lecture about crises of early age. And this is another problem of Tatar identity: education. And it will not be solved by actions. But children need an environment. And Jadidfest has explicitly created it, showing that from subcultural phenomena, from the point of view of a large society, Tatar culture turns into a trend. It is beautiful, stylish, unusual, it is not investigated. And often no one knows what will happen if this phenomenon is to be added by something from abroad. As one of the visitors said: I as if for two days fell into a different world. And this is the world of future.
