Tatarstan Deputy Prime Minister, Chairman of the National Council Vasil Shaykhraziev is on a two-day working visit to the Rostov Region. At the Platov airport, our compatriots met him.
Tomorrow, President of Tatarstan will also visit Rostov-on-Don. Here he will hold business negotiations, also in the program of the visit a meeting with activists of the Tatar public organizations of the Rostov region is planned. Chairman of the National Council Vasil Shaykhraziev will also take part in it.

The first mention of the Tatars of the Don dates back to 1623 in the Cossack Gazette as Muslim Cossacks. Don Tatars participated in the hostilities of the Cossacks, carried out diplomatic missions in the embassies, and conducted reconnaissance.
In the capital of the Cossacks, Starocherkassk, there was a Tatar settlement with a mosque. This settlement is still called the Tatar settlement.
After founding of the new capital of the Cossacks of the city of Novocherkassk, the Tatar settlement was moved to a new place near the city and transformed into a Tatar farm. This settlement exists today and is called “Tatarka”.
A large resettlement of the Tatars to the Don was after 1943 for restoration of mines, factories and plants. Hard work and zeal, good nature and love of life helped many thousands of Tatars to settle down, live and work in the distant lands of the Don region. At the same time, the Tatars preserved and passed on from generation to generation the knowledge of their native language and the traditions of their people.
The number of Tatars in the Rostov region according to the 2010 census was 13,900 people, which is 0.3% of the region’s population.
Fifteen years ago, far from their historical homeland, the Tatars of the Rostov region managed to find each other, united and made efforts to preserve traditions, customs, native language and culture of their people.
In Rostov, the Rostov Regional Public Organization “Tatar-Bashkir Cultural Center“ Yaktashlar ”conducts its activities. Chairman of the Management Board – Badgutdinov Marcel Rasimovich.

Since 2018, free Tatar language courses have been opened.
