New location chosen for monument to Tatar poet in Omsk

A monument to Tatar poet and Hero of the Soviet Union Musa Jalil is planned to be installed in the Park of the 30th Anniversary of Victory in the Kirov district of Omsk. Yesterday, during a meeting of the City Council, deputies approved this idea.

Previously, the bust was intended to be placed in the Peoples’ Friendship Square. Other locations considered for the monument included the intersection of Herzen and Rabinovich streets, as well as the crossroads of 4th Line and 10 Let Oktyabrya Street.

Jalil was born in 1906 and worked in journalism and theater. In 1925, he published his first collection of poems, wrote librettos for operas, and worked on translations of Russian classics. He took part in the Great Patriotic War, serving as a war correspondent. In 1944, he was executed in Berlin.
