Today, on June 28, the scientific conference “Koshman Ukulary” was held in the village of Kushmany in the Kaybitsky District, dedicated to the role and significance of the “sunnatchi babays” – people who perform the ritual circumcision of boys.
The event was organized by the mosque of the village of Kushmany of the Kaybitsky Mukhtasibat and the Kazan madrasah named after the 1000th anniversary of the adoption of Islam.
The conference was attended by statesmen, imams, historians, doctors, entrepreneurs, public figures, shakirds (students of madrasahs), as well as representatives of the dynasties of “sunnatchi babays” from the village of Kushmany. Among the distinguished guests were Mufti of Tatarstan, Chairman of the Spiritual Board of Muslims of the Republic of Tatarstan, Kamil hazrat Samigullin; First Deputy Chairman of the National Council of the World Congress of Tatars – Head of the Executive Committee of the World Congress of Tatars, Danis Shakirov; Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Budget, Taxes and Finance of the State Council of the Republic of Tatarstan, Kamil Nugayev; Head of the Kaybitsky Municipal District, Albert Rakhmatullin; Director of the Kazan madrasah named after the 1000th anniversary of the adoption of Islam, Ilyas hazrat Ziganshin; Imam-Mukhtasib of the Kaybitsky District, Damir hazrat Giniyatullin; as well as elders, imams, and residents of the village.
It is noteworthy that the “sunnatchi babays” played a significant role in the spiritual life of the Tatar people during the Soviet period. The choice of the conference venue – the village of Kushmany in the Kaybitsky District – is also no coincidence. Historical sources indicate that the majority of religious figures known as “sunnatchi babays” came from this very village. Conference participants emphasized that during the Soviet era, the efforts of the “sunnatchi babays” contributed to the preservation of Tatar-Muslim culture.
