Chairman of the Writers’ Union of the Republic of Tatarstan  explained why Kazan Airport should be named after Tukai

Chairman of the Writers’ Union of the Republic of Tatarstan Danil Salikhov said that Kazan Airport should be named after Gabdulla Tukai. He told about this to the correspondent of IA “Tatar-inform”.

“Tukay is a symbol of our Tatarstan, its people. This name symbolizes the area where our ancestors lived, where the Tatars live, in his name is our literature, culture, language, religion, traditions. If they ask “Who lives in this area?”, His name itself responds: “The descendants of Tukay, the descendants of the Tatar people live here,” said Danil Salikhov.

“To be honest, the Tatar airport should bear the name of a great person respected by the people. Tukay is respected not only by the Turkic peoples, but also by representatives of all nationalities, so we should call the airport by its name, ”he said.

Voting for the name of the airport “Kazan” will continue until November 30 at the site of the great names. The names of Gabdulla Tukai, Musa Jalil, Andrey Tupolev reached the final.
