In anticipation of the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory, the People’s Theater “Ak Zhilkän” presented the premiere of the play “Ana Hökemе” (“A Mother’s Decision”), based on the work of playwright Angam Atnabayev. The performance took place at the Bolshiye Kaybitsy House of Culture.

Event Highlights

The premiere was attended by the head of the district, Albert Rakhmatullin, who gave high praise to the production, which was directed by Svetlana Ziyadieva — also the lead actress, portraying the role of the mother.

The cast included both familiar faces and newcomers:

  • Familiar actors: Linar Bagaviev, Leysan Shamilova, Nail Galiev, Aigul Khayrutdinova, Marsel Sadriev, Liliya Valiullina, Alina Khayrutdinova, Aliya Akhmetova

  • Debut performances: Rezeda Gaynutdinova, Ildus Safiullin

The emotionally charged storyline and the heartfelt performances left no one in the audience indifferent — there were moments of both laughter and tears.

Plot and Themes

Throughout the play, viewers are transported to the wartime era, experiencing the life of Soviet civilians: working tirelessly from dawn to dusk to support the front, struggling to provide even the bare essentials for their children. With poignant precision, the author conveys the atmosphere of the 1940s, allowing the audience to glimpse into the harsh reality faced by past generations.

The narrative revolves around the tragic story of a mother who receives death notices for both her husband and eldest son, sends her youngest son to war, and must face the shame of her middle son becoming a deserter. The drama is rich with intense conflicts, deep moral dilemmas, and contrasting characters, both virtuous and flawed.

The actors masterfully depicted the psychological turmoil and inner struggles of the characters, delivering a compelling emotional experience.
