Vasil Shaykhraziyev visits the Samara historical mosque

As part of a working visit to the Samara Region, Vasil Shaykhraziyev, Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Tatarstan and Chairman of the National Council of the World Congress of the Tatars, visited the Samara Historical Mosque — one of the most important spiritual and cultural centers for Muslims in the region.

During the visit, guests learned about the history of the mosque, its architectural features, and its current activities. The Samara Historical Mosque was built in 1891 with funds provided by Simbirsk merchant and philanthropist Timerbulat Akchurin. Since its founding, it has served as a center of religious and educational life for Samara’s Muslim community: a children’s school and a madrasah operated at the mosque, where future imams were trained.

Preserved preliminary design projects for the reconstruction and expansion of the building, created in 1903 by architect Smirnov, played an important role in restoring the mosque’s historical appearance. During the years of large-scale reconstruction, the mosque’s foundation was reinforced, all utility systems were replaced, ventilation and fire safety systems were installed, and extensive work was carried out on both the exterior façade and interior finishing. A two-story building with a dome and a 38-meter minaret overlooking the Volga River and the city center was added to the historic structure. A basement level was also constructed to house engineering and utility facilities. Today, the mosque can accommodate up to one thousand worshippers at a time.
