On the eve of Victory Day, a solemn flower-laying ceremony was held in Nizhnevartovsk at the monument to the Tatar poet and Hero of the Soviet Union, Musa Jalil.
Those who came to honor the memory of the poet, who perished in Nazi dungeons in 1944, included Boris Khokhryakov, Chairman of the Duma of Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug—Yugra; Natalia Zyablitskaya, Deputy Chairperson of the City Duma; as well as deputies of the district and municipal parliaments, representatives of the city administration, members of veterans’ associations, students from city schools, and residents of the city.
Participants laid flowers at the foot of the monument and observed a minute of silence in memory of the poet. Schoolchildren recited poems from the famous “Moabit Notebooks.” The event concluded with a solemn march by the honor guard.
