Kazan welcomes ASEAN Summit guests with tatar warmth

These days, the leaders of 11 Southeast Asian countries have arrived in the capital of Tatarstan. From the very first steps, guests are shown that diplomacy here is built on the principles of Eastern wisdom and hospitality.

At the airport, guests are greeted not only with smiles but also with Tatar sweets. Chak-chak is not just a sweet souvenir but a true symbol of respect. This tradition dates back hundreds of years and has today become a hallmark of Tatarstan. It is presented at every important event — from weddings to state receptions.

Even nature seems to be set for the occasion: specially for the arrival of the high-ranking guests, nearly 1.5 million flowers were planted — as many as the population of Kazan itself. The city is adorned not only with flower beds but also with warm traditions. In restaurants and hotels, guests are offered a special menu featuring dishes of Tatar cuisine.

Symbolically, just before the start of the talks, little ambassadors of friendship arrived in Kazan — baby elephants from Laos. These two females, Sugar and Lucky, made a long journey by plane, feeding on their favorite fruits. Now they are getting acquainted with the local produce and happily eating pears. Such an unusual gesture underscored the atmosphere of trust and mutual respect that Kazan creates for every guest.
