Sabantuy-2026 united the peoples of Mari El

On June 27, the republican national holiday “Sabantuy-2026” was held at the racetrack in the settlement of Ruem.

On behalf of the republic’s parliament, the participants of the holiday were greeted by Eduard Alexandrov, a member of the Presidium of the State Assembly and Chairman of the Committee on Culture, National Policy, Tourism and Sports. He noted that Sabantuy rightfully occupies a special place in the cultural life of the republic, embodying respect for agricultural labor and the generosity of the native land. This holiday brings together people of different nationalities, strengthening friendship and mutual understanding among the peoples who live in peace and harmony in our republic.

According to the deputy, this year’s celebration carried special significance due to the fact that 2026 has been declared the Year of Unity of the Peoples of Russia. Sabantuy became yet another vivid confirmation that shared values – respect for traditions, diligence, hospitality, and care for one’s neighbors – lie at the foundation of the unity of our multinational society.

For their significant personal contribution to strengthening interethnic relations, Eduard Alexandrov presented letters of gratitude from the State Assembly to judges of the Regional Public Organization “Federation of Belt Wrestling and Koresh” of the Republic of Mari El – Ramil Bakhtiyarov and Ilnur Garipov – as well as to Lyaysan Garipova, director of the Republican Center of Tatar Culture.

The festive program began with horse races, which set a dynamic tone for the entire event. This was followed by an official opening ceremony on the central stage. Throughout the day, visitors enjoyed a vibrant array of events: demonstration performances by parachutists and a strongman extreme sports tournament alternated with a large concert featuring pop stars from Tatarstan and creative ensembles from the Republic of Mari El.

Meanwhile, fierce competition unfolded at the sports venues: spectators witnessed traditional national “Koresh” wrestling with valuable prizes for the batyrs (heroes), as well as folk games – sack fights, climbing a tall pole, running with a yoke, and tug-of-war. For young guests, there were play areas, amusement rides, and photo zones. The holiday concluded with an evening entertainment program called “Kichke Uyen” (Evening Games).
