Istanbul will mark the 160th anniversary of the birth of Zakir Ramiev

Istanbul will mark the 160th anniversary of the birth of a classic of Tatar poetry, a public figure, the major  entrepreneur of the early twentieth century, philanthropist Zakir Ramiev, who published his literary works under the pseudonym Derdmend.

The organizer of the celebrations is the Istanbul Institute of Turkology at the University of Marmara. Guests from Kazan, Ufa, Moscow, Helsinki are invited.

Zakir Ramiev (1859-1921) was born on November 23, 1859 in the village of Zirgan of the Sterlitamak district in the family of a Tatar merchant. He lived most of his life in the Orenburg region, studied for 2 years in Turkey. He was a member of the Board of Trustees of the Orenburg Husainia Madrasah. He  took part  in the I All-Russian conference on the font and spelling of the Tatar language, which was held in Kazan in January 1919.

People remember Zakir Ramiev and his brother Shakir as true patriots. Based on the research of scientists, local historians, according to the memoirs of contemporaries who knew the Ramiev brothers closely, it is known that they made a significant contribution to the economy, spiritual and social life of the region. At their enterprises, residents of many villages of Baymak, Uchalinsky, Zilairsky, Khaibullinsky, Abzelilovsky, Zianchurinsky districts were provided with well-paid work. A vivid example of the social responsibility of entrepreneurs, the Ramievs helped families in need, built hospitals, libraries, schools, mosques, madrassas, taught Tatars at their own expense in prestigious Russian educational institutions, and organized a massive book publishing.
