Kazan Square and a monument to Musa Jalil opens in Yakutsk

Kazan Square and the monument to the great Tatar poet, Hero of the Soviet Union Musa Jalil were solemnly opened in Yakutsk. The event was attended by a delegation from Tatarstan led by Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Tatarstan, Chairman of the National Council of the World Congress of the Tatars Vasil Shaykhraziev.

The Chairman noted that Kazan Square will strengthen relations between the republics. “We are confident that Kazan Square will become an iconic location, an incentive for further strengthening of friendship between our republics” he said.

The opening of the monument was also attended by First Deputy Chairman of the State Assembly of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) Alexander Zhirkov, Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) Sergei Mestnikov, Head of the city of Yakutsk Evgeniy Grigoriev, Chairman of the Union of Writers of Yakutia Gavril Androsov, Chairman of the Tatar cultural center “Tugan Yak” Igor Khalilov, head of the committee for working with Tatar public organizations in the regions of the Russian Federation Mars Tukaev.

The bust of Musa Jalil was unveiled by Sergei Mestnikov and Vasil Shaykhraziev.

The ceremonial laying of the square took place in June 2022, when the Days of Tatarstan took place in Yakutia. It is located near the art school.
