Ulyanovsk regional Tatar national-cultural autonomy turns 15 years old

March 2, Governor Sergei Morozov congratulated representatives of the autonomy on their anniversary. The ceremony was attended by deputy of the State Duma , Chairman of Federal National Cultural Autonomy of Tatars Irek Gilmutdinov.

Head of the region emphasized an important role that the autonomy plays in preserving language and culture of the Tatar people . “This anniversary you meet with great achievements in strengthening the national identity and connections not only between the Tatars, but also between all the peoples living in the Ulyanovsk region and beyond. Along with this, the autonomy should now get down to work on such key areas for the region like the development of culture, the welfare of our fellow countrymen and preserve the main family values”, – said the Governor.

During the event, for his significant contribution to strengthening friendship and cooperation between the peoples, fruitful activity for the preservation and development of the Ulyanovsk region, Tatar culture and national traditions, by the Medal of Friendship of Peoples, Chairman of the executive committee of regional Tatar national-cultural autonomy Ramis Safin was awarded. In addition, a Certificate of honor of the Governor of the Ulyanovsk region was delivered to Chairman of Council of the Tatar national-cultural autonomy for fruitful activity for conservation and progressing in the region of Tatar culture and national traditions.

In May 1998, NGO “Ulyanovsk regional Tatar national-cultural autonomy .” was established. The first Chairman of the Board was elected professor Azat Gaynullovich Kurchak . Currently, in the Ulyanovsk region resides 150,000 of Tatar population. Tatars are actively involved in the national political , economic and cultural life of the region and the city of Ulyanovsk. Among the members of the Legislative Assembly and the City Council there are five deputies of Tatar nationality, three heads and four heads of municipal administrations, 262 deputies of different levels of government that is 15% of the total.
